UGH! Expedia is winding down its group personal pension plans and replaced it with self-invested personal pension. Their 900 employees would have to make contributions from salary sacrifice.

Their GPP is more than a decade old. Such a waste!

Well not really. The company would still be contributing 5% of the pot, while staff will shoulder 3%. It's better than nothing.

It is optional right? I mean you can choose not to transfer to the SIPP

Yup it is. the advantage is that with the SIPP all contributions go to the pension plan. With the GPP, 20% on your contributions go to national insurance payment.

It's not optional. The GPP ended August 31.

The new scheme they're offering is going to put a good deal of pressure on their employees and to the company as a whole, likely lowering engagement levels, staff morale and potentially forcing them to up wages to compensate.

Pensions are really suffering due to the financial downturn, and with auto enrollment - it's starting to look quite bleak.
