If they wanted to get rid of you they could have fired you on the spot. It looks like they are giving you a chance to change your ways.

Default Warning

I would advise you to have another member of management staff witness the verbal warning and also let the staff member know that they entitled to have a colleague witness the meeting with them also.

You should have it in writing. On top of what has been discussed in the meeting you should also put into the document that it would be placed into his personnel file for a some specified period of time.

We usually send them a letter arranging a meeting with us, them and the manageress. We then give them a telling off and put in a letter the reasons for the telling off and give the letter to them at the end of the meeting.
We then get them to sign something to say they have had the warning.
It is better to get everything in writing to be on the safe side.

Default Verbal warning

If your unsure, the best line of action is to seek professional advice, if you take the wrong advice you could make a mistake that could leave you open to the risk of a employment law tribunal of claim (If it were to come to that).
