Improving employee morale is really needed these days, as it is currently at very low levels in many organisations. And in order for organisations to do this, spending is not really necessary. All you have to do is appreciate what they are doing, verbally and through e-mail! Don't underestimate what kind and praising words can do!

I agree. "Good job," "Great work," "Keep it up!" "I'm proud of you," and even a simple "Thank You" can really go a long way. These words validate an employee's need for recognition and appreciation of their efforts. Most especially the ones who willingly take on more tasks.

Our boss does this. He shows how much he appreciates employees who are performing well by praising him through e-mail and actually "cc-ing" everybody else in the department. And he makes sure he doesn't leave out anybody.

Boost employee morale by being fair and not playing favorites.

Employee morale improves when staff feel they are valued. Share and implement their innovations and ideas. If you treat all employees like you would want to be treated, then you are more than half way there.
