You have the right to Statutory Maternity Pay from your employer if they deduct National Insurance and tax from your pay.

In order to qualify for SMP, you also need to have worked for the same employer for a minimum of 26 continuous weeks by the end of the 15th week before the week when your baby is due.

And you have to earn at least the Lower Earnings Limit, too. This means that you have to have an average earning of at least £90 a week (before tax) in the 8 weeks or two months before the end of the qualifying week, and you stop work because of your pregnancy on or after the 11th week before the week in which your baby is due.

What if a home worker doesn't qualify for SMP? Any other benefits we can tell her or them about?

They can claim Maternity Allowance from their local Benefit Agency or from the Department for Work and Pensions office.

Thank you for these. I have a home worker who is currently on her eighth month of pregnancy, it's nice to know that she could expect something when gives birth.

I actually just went through this process and I went to the DMV first. They will give you an interim license while you're waiting for your new ID.

Don't do it, its worse than a rip off, we did this years and years ago, and the pain of it, and the money was just not worth the hassle and the back breaking work.
