Default Data protection in secondment

I was wondering if my company could put me in secondment. We just have an affiliate who wanted to "borrow" some staff and our management agrees. I really don't want to but I was told that my resume and files were among those sent to the affiliate for review.

Is that possible?

Hmmmn, your company would have to keep your data confidential. I think they just broke the Data Protection Act here.

Actually no... The seconder may disclose personal data to host companies without requiring any consent from the employees involved. This is because the law sees secondment to be in the legitimate interest of the employer.

The only restriction applies to sensitive or confidential data, then the company would have to ask for the employee's consent on that!

Correct. BUT, and this is a very big responsibility for the seconder... the data should be properly protected. These protection could be included in the secondment agreement as well!

Thanks for this clarification. As part of a company that just recently started a secondment programme, this really helped me.
