Default Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

I know there's a Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 which makes it unlawful for organisations or employers to discriminate against a person on grounds of a spent conviction. I just want to know if there are jobs that are exempt from this Act.

Yes, there are. The type of jobs that are exempt from this Act include those that involve working with children, the elderly and disabled people.

Also exempt are jobs that gives one a senior role in banking and in the financial services industry. There are also certain posts in the field of law enforcement that are exempt.

I think that certain professions in the fields of health, law and pharmacy are also exempt.

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 enables some criminal convictions to become 'spent', or ignored, after a 'rehabilitation period'. A rehabilitation period is a set period from the date of conviction, after which period, with certain exceptions, an ex-offender is not normally obliged to mention his conviction when applying for a job or obtaining insurance, or when involved in criminal or civil proceedings.

I'm wondering if there are a list of offenses that are included in the act?

I mean, I wouldn't be very comfortable hiring somebody who has killed three women three different times, even if it all happened some 20 years ago?
