Default Do you agree?

LGBT employees are more loyal than other employees. True or false?

It really depends. I used to work for a company where people were more or less prejudiced that gay people had to stay in the closet because they know they'd be discriminated against. And more or less, these LGBT employees did not stay long. Now that I work for a somewhat more progressive company that values diversity, I can see how everybody is more engaged with their work.

That's true. Who would want to stay in a company that does not value them? It is the same with gay people.

I think there is another reason why LGBT employees stay at progressive companies, and that is because they often dread having to work for a company that is not so progressive. You have to admit it, homophobia is still very prevalent nowadays. In fact, at a diversity forum I once attended, it was found that at least 14% of LGBT employees have experienced being harassed at work.

I really think that we should do more in protecting LGBT employees. They are being laughed at at some office and some are bullied. I agree that those LGBT employees who find themselves in a progressive company rarely leaves!

There is another reason why we should take care of LGBT employees. A fallout or a discrimination case would really mean bad business. There is an estimated 1.7 million people in the country who belong to the LGBT sector, and more than half of them have indicated that they will support companies that hire and recruit LGBT employees.

this applies to just about marginalized groups. People with disabilities would want to work for an organisation where they don't have accessibility problems, while women won't want to work in places where they are treated like second class citizens!

In marketing, there is some rules that say that even if you have a clear target market, that doesn't mean that you should marginalize all others who are not in your target market. Or you'd lose valuable sales!
