Default How widespread is racism here?

Just how prevalent is racism today here in the UK? I was just thinking that this wouldn't be an issue, but seeing the posts here, I think I might be wrong.

There was a 2004 report from the BBC that found that racism is alive and well. They sent out 6 CVs with traditionally white, black, Muslim, Asian names to 50 firms. They found that white candidates were more often given an interview, but similarly qualified black and asian names were not!

I think this was reported by the BBC but the actual study was done by Radio 5 Live.

I remember this. This is one of the most powerful studies on racial discrimination in the workplace and you see they selected companies from different industries but at random. They scoured newspapers and job Web sites to identify the companies.

Yup, on top of that, a lot of the firms were well known. With the same level of experience and background, white names were more attractive. I think this just means that we have inherent biases!

Imagine that 25% of the white applicants were offered interviews. Only 9% of the Muslim applicants however got job interviews!

I think more than racial discrimination, this also speaks of cultural discrimination and in the case of Muslims, religious discrimination.
