That's bad, but it becomes worse if you factor in the statistics that showed that 2 in every 5 unemployed people above 50 have been out of a job for more than a year, and that Age UK has said that they expect 750,000 older workers looking for a job in the next four years!

You guys might want to check this out: http://taen.org.uk/news/view/582

Quote:
As the Coalition’s plans to reform welfare-to-work benefits are set to increase the number of older workers looking for a job, Age UK is warning that more people in later life will be likely to find an ‘invisible wall of ageism’ between them and a new job, leading to more older workers stuck in long-term unemployment.

Default Age discrimination

Tribunal and guess what, there were already close to a thousand age discrimination claims in 2006, when the law was first passed. It should be noted that if age is one of the criteria in the process.

I guess that has something to do with education. People who suffer from age discrimination bears it because they really don't have anything to protect them. Local Government has found that 4% of employees above 50, say that they have been refused a job .

Default age discrimination

Ask anyone you know near the retirement threshold without a skill set that is in great shortage. The problem is highly widespread.
